Advice to Designers: Never Flinch (but then scramble and learn)
EYMER DESIGN was started in 1989–right in the midst of an extremely stagnant economy (sound familiar). My wife/partner, Selene Carlo-Eymer, and I had been married for 3 years and both found ourselves out of work and pounding the pavement–first separately and then as a team.
It wasn’t long before one project lead to another, and another, and another. What was one of our secrets? If a prospect ever asks if you have created a particular type of project before, always confidently spout out the word–YES!
Sure, there were many moments when we secretly thought, “What have we gotten ourselves into?” As trained problem-solvers, we dug in and did our research. After all, sometimes not having the ‘usual bag of tricks’ to reach into, meant that we had plenty of room to explore and innovate. This is when the fun really starts!
