I think it'd be so cool if people would stop telling me how much they want to kill the bugs i love so dearly, i dont personally own any bugs at the moment but every time someone tells me it feels no different that if they were to say it about my dog or a cat. I have meltdowns so often over this because people cant just hold their tongues for 5 minutes so i can talk about one of the few things that i truly enjoy. Its almost embarrassing to admit but finding and learning about bugs is one of the few things that pulled me out of a huge depressive rut after i dropped out and i honest to god dont know where i'd be if i never got into them. I just wish people could have a bit of empathy for such wonderful little things and take a moment of their time to just put them outside or even ignore them. idk if you read this i just wanna say thanks for every bug youve put outside instead of harming, i honest to god appriciate it more than anyone will ever know

My friend has let me pick one of her hissing cockroaches so I got this extremely anxious boi who kept hissing at everything including his mates. He's a big MOOD™

Hi bug friends!

Is there anything I can get or do for my hissing cockroaches that will improve their quality of life in anyway? be it food, hides, ?? anything

rn they’ve got a natural wood hide and about 6 toilet roll tubes in their enclosure, but mostly they just snuggle between that and the walls or even hide under the rolls/their food dishes. 

their food is a mixture based on what I’ve read online is suitable.  dry cat food, oats, high protein micro fish pellets and occasional fruit and veg, w/e I have to hand and last night they were VERY keen on my geckos repashy food that he wont eat, they scoffed most of what I gave them which is the most I’ve seen them eat! up until today i wasn’t even sure if they *were* eating but I read unless you have a lot its hard to notice?

I find it hard to find anything beyond basic care of them, even though they’re bugs I’d like to think there’s probably more I can do :>

COCKROACH MOVING DAY!!!!

I spent a good chunk of the day disinfecting all of the detritus and sticks. I found most of these sticks, leaves, roots, bark, and rocks outside. But since I don't live in Madagascar, it's not very accurate to their natural habitat. However, cockroaches are famously persistent, so I think they'll be ok. I'm really excited for these roaches, I hope they don't die like my isopods did ;-;

Guess who just got new pets!!!!

This is just their temporary holding cell. I need to set up my terrarium for them because I wasn't expecting to be offered free cockroaches at 9 am on a Wednesday.

There's two females and one male. The nymph is too young to sex.
