Angels bringing food to Jesus in the wilderness, Mir’at al-Quds, Mughal Empire, 1602 The Mir’at al-Quds, a summary of the life of Jesus and some other biblical stories, was written at the request of Emperor Akbar I by the visiting Jesuit priest Jerome Xavier, who had learned Persian to more effectively debate theology with Akbar and other religious scholars in his court. The manuscript’s calligrapher was Mahram Koka; the illustrator is unknown, but may have been Basavan, who also illustrated Akbar’s biography.

Grape Church in Cappadocia's Red Valley, a single-nave church carved into one of the natural rock formations known as "fairy chimneys." Grape Church was built in the 9th century and was home to the stylite hermit St. Niketas, who lived in a cell in the upper part of the church, worshipped in the lower part, and was likely buried in a rock tomb in the antechamber.
