Less so how it works, more-so how it had affected the Nexus Crew. But a bit of how it works sorta sprinkled in maybe.
Also, if any words and up missing the 'b', just know that key is not fully working w/ my laptop
Now, let's start with how much each character would more than likely has been exposed to, at least in term of being directly exposed. Top is the most, bottom is the least
1 - Hoffnar
2 - Crackpot
3 - A tie between Christoff & Phobos
4 - Gonne, but he could also probably(?) go higher due to Machine & S3LF-Eater stuff.
And because I'm including my one Nexus OC I have for the hell of it, Graves would be at number 5 for the least exposure, somehow or another.
For Hoffnar & Crackpot, the outcome is obvious; a Zed Clown hellbent on chaotic fun, & a Cult-Leading Zed in the Sewers. While most exposure in the Nexus Days is spread out, there are definite spikes from lab accidents that cause more concentrated moments and amounts of exposure to the purple. Especially with Hoffnar considering he directly worked with the stuff probably daily, or at least multiple days a week
When I think about the stuff, I think of something probaly akin to being radioactive in a sense, pictures that include some concentration of the stuff come out grainy and lower quality. I also image it sort of rewrites a Nevadian's 'Code' or their S3LF, altering traits or exaggerating them to the extreme.
Despite being in the middle of the road, Phobos's exposure happened over more time, which resulted in a more slow burn of his changes. While none physical, his ego was amplified into the god-complex he has in the present. The same goes for Christoff & his Savior Complex, with the Keystone Fragment/Halo acting as a 'regulator' of sorts, though it still emites a small amount of the stuff, most of it remains contained within the halo unless Christoff calls on it. Which is often.
And in Christoff's case, The KF keeps him alive, given he isn't blown up or killed in some way (Like, first Hank's bomb killing them both, then the Normality Beam or whatever it was in, like, 9 or 10? oth explosions.). This does of course lead to neglect, of course, so his body likes more like a corpse, thanks to a lack of eating and drinking being replaced with the purple.
And while I can be very lore-brained sometimes, I don't know too much about Gonne off the top of my head, but it possibly played a role in him cutting himself off and staying in his lab most of the time
And as for my OC, well, it mostly just caused some more intense emotions overall, & its hair to actually be stuck being 'angular', no matter how hard anybody tries to make it more organic-looking and smooth. It happened pretty much on Graves's first day too, so most people just... assume its hair has always been like that. When it has not.
In which, Dr. Christoff accidentally 'flirts' with his most loathed co-worker. This is based off of an event in the Sims 4 that happened awhile back.
When you put 4 of the 'most competent living entities' in all of Nevada in a room together, what would you expect? Probably not them acting like complete children. But, alas, that is what has happened within Nexus City's Science Tower. Dr. Christoff, Dr. Crackpot, Dr. Hofnarr, and Dr. Gonne all having to work together for that day, something Phobos said was a 'bonding excercise', but was really to try and get them to not be at each-other's throats. And it wasn't working. Mostly because Christoff and Crackpot were at each other's throats. As per usual.
"That is the most horrendous idea I have ever heard in my life!"
"Oh, PUH-LEASE, you wouldn't have a decent idea is it smacked you upside the head, Christoff!!!"
He has only gotten worse. So, so much more unbearable because of his Dissonance exposure. Crackpot & Hofnarr both, but at least the latter knows how to control it. Somewhat. And it has been pissing Christoff off to no end, and he's been getting so, so fed up with it. as the bickering continues, Gonne glances over at Hofnarr with... Mild at best concern. Seeing as this the rare occasion this robotics man leaves his workshop.
"Do they ever shut up?"
"No. No they don't. ᶜˡᵒʷⁿ ᵍᵉᵗˢ ᶦʳʳᶦᵗᵃᵗᵉᵈ ᵇʸ ᶦᵗ…"
"What was that last part?"
"Cl- I said I get irritated with it. At least when it goes on and on like this."
However, when the duo look back at the bickering pair, they quickly both realize that they probably should've kept their eyes on the two. Because in a fit of anger, Christoff has waltzed over to Crackpot's spot, and pinned the masked Nevadian to the table, very clearly wanting to strangle Crackpot.
"LISTEN TO ME FOR ONCE IN YOUR PATHETIC EXISTENCE, CRACKPOT!"
Crackpot only could let out a strangled, almost flustered sound in response. Because he was not expecting to ever be pinned down by anybody except Director Phobos one day. So, to say he's thankful for the Anti-Dissonance mask is a massive understatement.
It's fully quiet for a moment. Dead silent. And then, Hofnarr bursts in hysterics, cackling loudly, having to grab onto the table for stablization in order keep himself stable and steady of he dies of laughter. Gonne, however, in all his internalized homophobia, instantly lashes out.
"WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU TWO?! THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE PROFESSIONAL!!!"
"YOU'RE THE ONE TAKING THIS THE WRONG WAY, GONNE!"
"His hands are so close to my neck..."
Hofnarr, despite his laughter, manages to press the button in the middle of the table a few times rapidly. It's just there to notify Director Phobos that 'Hey, the meeting is going to shit, please unlock the door'. Which of course gets the attention of the other three.
"Oh, you three are so dead!"
"WHAT-" "HOFNARR!?!" "HOW DARE YOU-?!"
Nobody is living this down. Not so long as Hofnarr actually remembers it and has a say in it.
