I'm rewatching tdp and I'm thinkin abt trans Callum again. Like to me, even though I'm definitely over analysing here, his whole 'learning magic' story is so inherantly trans. This boy goes his whole life feeling like he's just not good at the things he's supposed to be good at, like he isn't what people EXPECT him to be, then he gets the primal stone and he "finally feels like himself". He says doing magic feels RIGHT, and you can see how happy he is to have a newfound sense of self. Then, of course, he breaks the primal stone and he feels like he's given up a part of himself for the greater good. All around him, people are telling him that he could never really do magic, that it isn't who he is, that he will never be a mage simply because he wasn't BORN with an arcanum. This person he wants to be, the version of himself that he KNOWS feels right, is the person everyone tells him he can't possibly be, because that's not how he was born. But he IS a mage. He knows that, he feels hopeless at times because people tell him he can't be, but he doesn't give up on himself. He learns the sky arcanum, despite what anyone tells him, and he becomes the person that feels RIGHT. anyway, trans coded Callum rights!!
