The plan was simple.
Get in, get out. It was just a convenience store, so Xavier kept telling himself. Patch had offered numerous times to go in alone but his master insisted otherwise, not wanting to be left to defend himself on the streets of unfamiliar dust and small buildings that felt so empty on the outside and so cramped on the inside.
They were both teenagers, Patch at 17 and Xavier at 19, with loose clothing and label-covered crap from Hot Topic and Beverly Hills thrift stores, respectively. Xavier's hair was losing the last of its purple tips.
"One..."
They stood with their shoulders to the unlocked glass door, Xavier with their only weapon, a lowly baseball bat.
"Two... THREE!"
In they went together with loud force, falling as they didn't realize how easily the door swung open.

"Whole point'a me comin' up here was t'get away from you people."
The blonde tilted her head, eyes squinting before she shook her head. "You plannin' on pretending that never even happened?"
"That…what never happened…?"
He felt his neck despite the verbal denial. He’d been hoping they’d go away like every other unfortunate discoloration to grace his vision.
