She had practically been sold.
Clara couldn't blame her parents. She knew it was for the benefit and safety of their kingdom. By having her marry the king of a nearby kingdom they would be receiving quite a bit of financial support. As well as any possibly military support if they should ever need it. Clara had understood their reasons, but she still felt frightened to her very bones about the situation they had put her in. She wasn't sure what sort of man would agree to such an arrangement. Not when his parents weren't making it for him.
She stared out the window of her carriage as it neared her future home. It certainly was a beautiful palace. It almost seemed twice the size of the one back home. It was surrounded by a wonderful setting, and if the circumstances were different she could sit and admire the place for hours.
But currently her stomach was too busy doing acrobats for her to really concentrate on the beauty around her. She could focus on that after she had met her fiance.. She just wasn't sure how long after that she would be able to relax and really take in the sights that this place was willing to offer her. Likely a very long time. Perhaps when she was actually properly married to this stranger.
Her heart might have stopped along with a carriage. She let the servants help her out and lead her to where the man was waiting. She gave a polite curtsy and looked up at him curiously. "It is a pleasure to meet you, your highness."
