Summary:

Nesta Archeron desperately needs her happily ever after. She’s overcome her trauma, atoned for her missteps, and worked hard to temper her sharp edges so she could be the mate Cassian deserves, and the sister Feyre and Elain need. All that remains now is her mating ceremony, and then she can take her place among the Night Court's Inner Circle. Across Prythian, Eris Vanserra has spent centuries doing the exact opposite: sharp edges are what's kept him alive in the Autumn Court. He's fought tooth and nail to stay on top and two steps ahead of the game, and worn the ugly mask of politics for so long he no longer remembers where Eris the Heir ends, and Eris the Person begins. But on the day of Nesta's mating ceremony-a day that should mark a new beginning for her and an end for him-both realize that old wounds don't always heal quickly, and that even the best, most careful planners can still get taken by surprise.

I've written... 500 words or so on the short fic where Eris interrupts Nesta's mating ceremony to Cassian to whisk her away. I'm having fun riffing off of Feyre's wedding.

(This, during a time when I can barely get my brain to string words together, so this all bodes well!)

Snippet:

The House still bore traces of Nesta from that morning when he stepped inside, Mor hot on his heels. A pair of training boots by the door; the lingering scent of her perfume, ozonic and violet and with hints of ink and steel; cosmetic jars littered across the surface of a dresser, along with a pair of borrowed beluga pearl earrings that looked suspiciously like the ones Lucien had given Elain a few years earlier. The ringing in Cassian's head intensified at the sight of these artifacts. He shut the bedroom door behind him, as if sealing what was left of her away could somehow quell it.

“House, grab me a whiskey,” he commanded, intent on distraction. “And two glasses.”

The House did not comply. Instead, it remained stubbornly, oppressively silent. 

Strange. Cassian frowned at that.

“House?” Cassian moved a few paces forward and knocked on a wall, as if to get its attention. “Hello?”

“Who are you talking to?” Mor asked from behind him, voice heavy with skepticism.

“The House,” Cassian responded absentmindedly, punctuating his answer with another loud knock on a different surface. “Damn thing must be mad at me, though. House? Are you there?”

Morrigan had opened her mouth to speak again, but at that display, she slowly shut it and continued to regard him with concern. No—alarm. “Does… the House usually talk back to you when you ask it things, Cassian?”

Reading The Folk of the Air series and in addition to reading like the trippiest game of Changeling ever (in the best way), I'm seriously tempted to redo a few things in Swords and Sorrows to incorporate more of Holly Black's style of worldbuilding. I love it so much.
