Maestro Knows - NYC Edition (13th Witness)
I hope I marry a twin of Maestro (personality wise)
Thank you - Levi Maestro
In 2009, I was checking on some of my favorite websites like Hypebeast, High Snobiety, and Ferrari Murakami when I came across the debut episode of an online show. It was a show called, "Maestro Knows" and he was trying to slam dunk in some Air Yeezy 1's. I decided to give the show a chance and each episode got better and more interesting as Levi Maestro showcased his daily life and the work of his friends. If you browsed through Levi's videos today you would find the likes of Estevan Oriol, Ibn Jasper, Kevin Love, Jonathan Mannion, Atiba Jefferson, Warren G, and many more. Each video served as a source of inspiration for myself and we here at That Culture say thank you for your contribution to the culture.
Other than his video work, Levi Maestro started to create product. The first item was a collaboration with 13th Witness which was released through RSVP Gallery in Chicago. I was able to call a phone order in and grab one before they sold out. Fast-forward a year or so, Levi introduced STRO, which is his t-shirt brand with the motto: "MAKE WHAT YOU LOVE." The brand promotes inspirational messages and the idea of keeping a positive mind.
While doing some video work for Vans, Levi Maestro was also given the opportunity to produce a shoe. Using the Old Skool 77 model his shoe came out in 2012. The shoe came in a gray colorway as it is Levi's favorite color and was made from premium materials.
Probably one of the most creative and interesting things I have seen from Levi Maestro are his infinity pieces. The first piece came in 2010 through a collaboration with Shayan Afshar. The watch was 18k gold and only 12 were available to order. Fast-forward to the future and we have Becomb. The company serves as the distributor of the Infinity Pieces today. The cool thing about the Infinity Piece is what it means. The accessory represents the passion you have for something. When you are doing something you love then time becomes irrelevant and thus, we have a watch with no clock.
Lastly, I want to leave you with my favorite Maestro Knows episode, The Dream Team. In this episode Levi travels to Tokyo for "The Life Of Koston" event. Levi calls this episode The Dream Team because of the people he traveled with in Atiba Jefferson, Ty Evans, and Eric Koston. The videos says something that has stuck me since I first watched it four years ago, "If you are doing what you are suppose to be doing, everything is going to work itself out. Just like I tell myself before, you gotta work hard and do it for yourself because nobody else is gonna do what you want for you."
Thanks Levi
