He’s giving the kid gun lessons and this is no place or time for frivolous sentimentalities to appear. The valid reason for their close proximity is proper guidance—how can Levi teach his pupil when his own body is shy from contact?

That’s how he tries to convince himself for the matter.

His other hand slides down and rests on Eren’s abdominal, patting the solid area in reminder. Levi relishes the instant tightening of muscles and an inescapable sharp intake of breath from Eren. The kid can’t pick a better day to wear his black shirt, taunting Levi with his defined built conveniently molded against the tight-fitting material.

“Strengthen the core, you’re all over the place.” More like, Levi’s mind is. But he keeps silent on that matter. “You don’t want to fling around when firing.”

The older hovers closely behind Eren, his cheek to the heat of Eren’s neck. He tells the boy to loosen the shoulders, squeezes that ball of muscle to test his waters. He doesn’t understand how the easily-flustered kid can remain so calm all of a sudden; that is, until Levi finally notices the pink glow at the tip of his ears. A lazy smile creeps in.

“When you’re ready, pull the trigger.”

And with flawless execution, Levi observes a smooth fluidity in Eren’s arms—a lightning strike of push and pull of his tense muscles. The gun rebounds in a slight jump before Eren stops the force and Levi feels every inch of power under his fingers. It’s exhilarating.

Eren yanks his goggles off and turns to Levi with an accomplished smile. “Bullseye.”

“Not bad for his first time.”

Their session is interrupted when Erwin peers through the glass door. “There you are, Eren. We’re leaving soon. What the hell are you doing here of all places?”

“He asked me to teach him how to shoot.”

Erwin gives Levi a puzzled look. “Mike taught him when he was ten or so…”

Levi glances at Eren and immediately catches the twinkle in his emerald-green eyes. The cheeky brat is looking pretty damn proud of himself.
