Missive #9217-102P: Heart(hstone) of the Cards

Recently reinstalled Heartstone and so far I enjoy it again?

However.

Is it supposed to be this challenging to beat the AI Paladin, Priest, and Shaman in Hearthstone or am I just totally strategy-dumb? Because I breezed through the all the other AI matches no problem but these last three...

(I’m betting it’s me. I am probably being super dumb about strategy. It wouldn’t be the first time.)

I’ve been using primarily the Mage deck--with at least two complete overhauls to account for new cards and different strategy--and I still get whomped. On the plus side, she’s at level 10 now, meaning I have all her basic cards so...that’s good, right? But come on, man. This is getting ridiculous! I should’ve had at least one of them beaten by now!

Ugh.

I’ve played some casual games (so that when I lose, it doesn’t feel as ridiculous) and I gotta say, I’m really enjoying those! Except the one where the guy just immediately conceded. That kind of sucked... But it’s been fun playing against other actual people, learning strategies that way and figuring out, “Okay, that didn’t work this time but...”

Now if I could just somehow apply this to beating the AI, that’d be great. And maybe help me recover some of what little pride I have.

This is a look at the rather popular Tempo Deck by Bloodlips in the EU. Been a LONG time since I played Mage but I honestly had a blast playing with this deck. All things considered its not that expensive to craft compared to most decks, & its well worth taking a look at!

Also a minor note, my recording software goofed with the Audio so for the first few min my voice is drowned out by the game, apologies there!

Mage and Druid are just me messing around with casual. Paladin was my revamped for Ranked deck. Icyveins guide was a big help!

Mage Deck Face Wreck

Let’s talk Frostwolf Warlord - Very situational card. It’s only truly beneficial if played with you having the card advantage anyway. However, combining the Warlord with Mirror Image, an extremely cheap card that puts 2 minions on your field, can save you a game.

Pros - This combo can be played on turn 6, or turn 5 with the coin. The mirror images having taunt makes the Warlord harder to take down if you currently have the field advantage, and with the images alone, he comes out as a 6/6. If you’re lucky enough to have other minions on the field, or even another Mirror Image, your Warlord becomes extremely powerful.

Cons - Playing another Mage deck means the Warlord can simply be polymorphed after all that effort to play him. Any other CC, such as the Shadow Word Death found in Priest decks, can also rain on your parade before you even get to swing. Play the Warlord when your opponent has no CC, or has already exhausted their options.

So last night I decided to try Blizzard's Hearthstone for the first time. Guess it went live. I trained a little until I had unlocked Thrall, and proceeded to try my luck at defeating 3 opponents for some mount for a WoW account I don't even play. Here's how that went down for me:

First off, with the exception of 1 Warlock and 1 Warrior, I got all Jainas as opponents. 

and here's what happened whenever I faced one:

I always went first, so Jaina would always not only get an additional card, but also get a free mana crystal card. Now, if you know anything about Jaina, you know she's a card hoarder

Without fail, the opponent would always cast the following card on my character the first turn:

For the rest of the match, these were the only cards used by her stupid OP ass:

Any turn until 3 mana crystals always resulted in her using her mage ability to do 1 damage to anybody. This usually killed off my low-level attack cards in 1 hit. And if not them, then it was aimed at me. Again, Jaina would sit there and stack cards. I was forced to play them unless I wanted an endless barrage of her hero ability with no sacrifice to her deck

This card would always result in a summoner monster placed on the board

The next few cards were the only cards I ever saw, with lol-hero-ability-fireball when they ran out of mana crystals to spend on their huge mana cards. The one below specifically was always used on me, in conjunction with the hero ability

This one was always used whenever I managed to get a taunter like the troll guy up on the board. Then, to save cards, Gaina would simply cast her hero ability on my sheep to kill it.

This guy usually came just after she would place 2-3 low mana attackers on the board.

This was always used whenever I was finally getting some people up on my side of the board. In which case, it would wipe them all out at one time. If this card isn't OP, I don't know what is.

Rinse, repeat.

This blog is really meant to be read more as humorous than whining, but I'm sure many will just say that I'm crying over losing. I did manage to kill 3 people, but none of them were Jainas. Needless to say, I did not enjoy my time playing this game, and will probably not be returning to it anytime soon. One last note: for any of you attempting to get that mount, I suggest you do it soon. I have a feeling many people only care about the mount, and so the massive influx of people will leave once mount is obtained; which leaves behind those who truly do want to play hearthstone and are probably going to be pretty good with a Jaina.
