Book review: Maybe Someday (Maybe #1) by Colleen Hoover
"Sometimes in life, we need a few bad days in order to keep the good ones in perspective."
Blurb: At twenty-two years old, Sydney has a great life: She's in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her best friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers Hunter's cheating on her--and she is left trying to decide what to do next. Sydney becomes captivated by Ridge, her mysterious neighbor. She can't take her eyes off him or stop listening to the passionate way he plays his guitar every evening out on his balcony. And there's something about Sydney that Ridge can't ignore, either. When their inevitable encounter happens, they soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one. . . [Goodreads] Review: Sydney Blake moves in with her neighbor Ridge Lawson after he tells her boyfriend's been cheating on her with her best friend Tori. Ridge writes songs for his band but has been suffering from a writer's block. He asks Sydney for her help and they start writing together. There's an amazing chemistry and undeniable attraction between them, but nothing can ever happen, because Ridge has a girlfriend. And the last thing Sydney wants to be is a Tori. If you aren't familiar with Colleen Hoover and think this is an average NA book, let me clarify that it's not. Colleen takes New Adult to a whole different level. She always manages to pull off something different with her stories. For Maybe Someday she and Griffin Peterson have written (and recorded!) original songs. I've been listening to them over and over. What I liked about the book is how Sydney's principles are tested. She's been cheated on and then she falls in love with a guy who has a girlfriend, a girlfriend she actually likes. Ridge is such a lovely guy. He'd give the world to Maggie if he could, but his feelings for Sydney confuse him and kind of make him an anti-hero, especially in his own eyes. I had a major hangover after reading Maybe Someday. The cure contained Maybe Not, the epilogue and the soundtrack.
