she knows what's coming. it has been sucking the air from her lungs since silva blinked herself conscious. still, the seal had pulled her burnt and battered body through bone-chilling snow. a trail of blood marking her path toward the ridge. she needed to get back in the fight. her brothers needed her to. kayce and bell needed her to.

when she'd come to, her hoarse pleas to t-ake bell and go fell on deaf ears. mariana hadn't forgotten about their promise to each other. but silva knew if she needed to be carried. he wouldn't be able to outrun the enemy. bell, even injured, would be more useful in a firefight than she was. mariana also knew kayce. knew he'd sooner die than break his promise to them. bravo two couldn't stomach the thought. so her bottom lip got the brunt of her agony, blood pooling behind her teeth, while she hoped she wouldn't come to regret this.

how long had he carried her for? hours? days? it has to have been awhile. she can't see the sun anymore. only him. working tirelessly to save her. a low whine from bell tells her she's somewhere near the door. on guard for an enemy her beloved canine can't see coming. mariana can feel she's running out of air. one more minute, she pleads. she's not ready to go yet. not before she knows they're gonna be alright.

It's neither compliment nor criticism,  mushroom-induced observations that were often blunt when they fell off her tongue.  But it was just as well for Theodora to take it as a compliment.  Madonna favors spiders  —or,  at least,  they favor her and she has long-since grown passively admiring of their presence in the corners of her life.  Her dark head gives a coquettish tilt in the other's direction,  words inciting a faint smile to twitch at the corners of the woman's mouth.

❛  Trickery.  Yes.  I  was  referring  to  their  cunning,   in  particular.  ❛   Madonna replies with a slight shrug of her shoulders,  pale face held by two slender hands glinting with silver rings.  Cunning,  yes.  She says this warmly,  though her expression is placidly thoughtful  —flicker of a smile now fast vanished.      ❛  But  their  creativity,   as  well.   Now  that  you  mention  it.   I've  seen  what  you  can  do  with  a  dead  eagle.   You're  almost  too  creative.    ❛
