A major part of a magical life is setting intentions. For me, one way I do that is using my planner and journals, so it's something I use pretty regularly in my magical workings.

I don't keep anything that a lot of other Witches would call a Book of Shadows. My journals and planner hold everything. My tarot readings, keeping track of when I refresh my protection spells, all of the correspondences I've collected and worked with, daily affirmations, and so much more that I'm probably forgetting to list. It all goes into one of these two books.

It's not aesthetically pleasing to look at, but it's a system that's been working for me ❤️

Starting a Magickal Journal

May 26 is the anniversary of the death of Samuel Pepys in 1703. He was a member of the English Parliament and Navy; however, he is best known for the diary he kept, which was later published.

We can apply Pepy's legacy to our personal spiritual practices. As a part of our practice, most of us keep a spiritual journal. If you already do so, today is a good time to consecrate and prepare or start a fresh one. If you do not yet keep a magickal journal, today is an opportunity to begin.

Take a blank journal and your favorite anointing oil or holy water, and stand before your altar.

Hold the book to your third eye, beam your intent for use for this journal into it, and then say a dedication of your choice while anointing the book down its spine.

Place the journal on your altar to charge, then make an entry!

ICE EGG RITUAL

This was a ritual from 5th October 1989. The aim of the ritual was to charge a quartz egg crystal with the energy of the primal Ice Egg. This was to be used in MANIFESTATION RITES.

The Ritual:

1)   Invoke an energy Rune Circle with Guardians at six points (equivalent to forwards, back, left, right, up & down.)

2)   Make a declaration before the Gods.

3)   The quartz egg is bound within cloth with nine binds of cord (thread). Charge the quartz egg crystal immersed in a chalice of water (three times three this was using a rune wand, knife and Hagalaz Rune) with a white seed rune (pictured) with the Galdr “Hai.”

4)   Birth the crystal egg from the water and bind to self by consuming the energized water from the chalice.

5)   Birth the quartz egg by releasing the nine binds of cord.

6)   Final declaration and binding.

7)   Close the rune circle and return powers to source.

 The events described above were recorded within my magical journal and I have tried to keep the text close to the original. The ritual was spontaneous, and some details are speculatively reconstructed as it was from a long time ago and I don’t remember. An intuitive meditation of the runes Inguz : Raidho: Sowilo took place the morning of the ritual with the following words written:

“From the seed comes the will to form, spiralling within the harmonious workings of the law of the light of the Sun.”

I am delighted to write that the quartz egg is still with me and it is suitably pictured on the attached photo surrounded by my runes. Alas the rune wand and knife were destroyed some years later and have not been replaced.

I recall being very aware that something very tumultuous took place with invocation of what I considered very powerful energies. My journal recounts how I considered that my hand was guided albeit with some trepidation of consequences.

With hindsight, the ritual indeed created very profound life changes and manifestations that continue to this day. My journal continued to detail some of these events, and they may be published within this blog in time. As a word of caution to those of you reading this, the life changes which followed for me were profound and all-encompassing with dark, bitter times. The rune poems from the Elder & Younger Futhark provide suitable veiled warnings. On the plus side, it began cycles of consciousness growth through the Elder Futhark made possible with the assistance and support of The Gods, and other beings.

Time to publish the tale of this ritual particularly as I reflect on if I had died years ago none of these words would have been aired and the events here would be lost except to the strands of the Web of Wyrd.

In conclusion, this ritual was published to perhaps assist and inspire others develop their own rituals to facilitate life changes towards the development of consciousness. Though many of the events that followed this ritual were not pleasant, I would not be writing these words without the love and support of others that have shared this journey over many years.
