1. Match - my Emma genderflipped WIP. I am amazed at how this story has come alive for me as I write it and I feel that this story, modernized and treating it as I am, is actually the perfect romance for our socially war-torn generation. I stan my own characters, in other words.

2. oh, those demons? they’re with me - a Ragnarok fic I wrote to get inside Loki’s headspace before my first impressions of the film slipped away. As usual, his angst and self-immolation tore at me and I really enjoyed some of the twists and turns of his thoughts here.

3. part love from hearts as much the wings from birds - I adore Friday Night Lights almost more than any other show. The first season is SO, SO good. And Tyra/Tim is my forever-angsty OTP. I wrote this for one of my favorite moments in Season 1, when Tyra rescues Tim after his father’s return wrecks him. Although “rescue” might not be the right word.

4. did we find first our hearts (or how they ache) - I have written over a dozen Stranger Things fics since Season 2 aired, mostly centered around Steve, WHOM I LOVE DEEPLY AND COMPLETELY. This is one of my favorites because some lines at it (including first and last) stabbed at my heart while I was writing them. 

5. they sent forth men to battle (but no such men return) - I just rewatched all of Agent Carter and found it as astonishingly charming as I did the first time. A rewatch tends to bring some good fic out of me, and this is my favorite that I’ve written for PeggySous.

Tender

For @magicaldestiny​, who requested #24 Tender and Nikki/Wrench (Fargo S3) from this meme. This ficlet is a modified bit from a Nikki/Wrench fic I’m working on. Enjoy?? LOL

Wrench’s hands are gentle but they do not hesitate. He’s cut away clothing before, Nikki can tell, off himself or someone else.

Getting into position takes an eternity and makes her hiss in pain. At last, she lies flat on her belly along the side of the hotel tub, limbs on either side, like some abandoned doll. Her leg dangles in, velour track pants snipped carefully to the knee, sacrificial calf facing up. Wrench sits on the toilet lid, leans forward to catch her eye. His brows rise. Ready?

She nods, face clammy against the cold porcelain, and he pours peroxide on the crossbow wound. Her mouth and eyes blow wide as her body receives the pain. Only once does he touch the front of her neck. It feels like a misplaced blessing.

He’s feeling for sound, for screams, she realizes. So he can back off if he needs to.

Nikki’s tears fall silently into the bathtub. They shimmer in droplets that will evaporate, sooner or later, or absorb into the rivulet of pink racing toward the drain. Wrench tenderly holds her ankle, maybe to keep her from following.

Hello, darling! I’m gonna do Wonder Woman. While I love, love, love this movie, there are any number of things I’d change.

Where are my goddesses at?

We heard about Zeus and Ares, but we didn’t get hardly anything about the goddesses of the pantheon. A quick petition to Athena or whatever would help. The way the movie makes it out, all the powers Diana and the Amazons have come from a man. Much less cool than all their strength/Diana’s best attributes coming from the goddesses.

Who are Diana’s besties?

Besides her aunt and her mother, who is Diana going to miss the most? I want her to have a girlfriend, of course, but it was hard to tell who even was her best friend. 

Where’s the little girl moment?

Gotta have an “inspiring a little girl” moment! Instead, we got an “impress the boys” moment several times over.

You know Women fought in WWI, right?

On the home front as policewomen, on the font as nurses, and in disguise as men, women kicked ass in WWI. How simple would it have been to have a female ballistics specialist who never went home when the Russians pulled out? If that’s too many characters then, honestly, as much as I like Charlie, a Russian woman would have fit into that role just as well.

DEEPER INTERNAL LIFE

Was Diana homesick and grieving?

I understand we need a determined tone to make the movie as upbeat and energetic as it is, but after she left the island Diana never seemed sad or lonely. True, she’s overwhelmed by a new world, but we could’ve had some reference sneak in.

What did Diana think about her powers? 

The light blasts and the strength were all new, and she took them in stride and with an adorable amount of wonder. I like a little more angst with my OP powers. 

Is Diana pissed that her mother lied to her?

A little of that could have gone into Ares’ spiel instead of just focusing on humanity.

Does Diana intend to try to return home?

I know there’s a sequel, but it would have been nice to have more of a sense of where she was at at the end of the war.

So, again, love what we got. But I would have taken every opportunity to make references to get at these questions. What are your thoughts?

For the micro story prompts: 1. don't leave. I'm going to suggest Fargo and Nikki/Wrench for this prompt, but maybe that's cheating since it's beyond the scope of the prompts. ;) Write whatever and however you are moved!

I might have cheated and made this a little more Nikki/Ray than Nikki/Wrench. ;) But it also ended up being longer than 10 sentences, so yay? Thanks for such a great prompt to make me write more Fargo fic!

They were all the same, motels. Men, too, she'd alwaysthought--the one exception being her Ray. Yet here was another man, helping herup the steps of another motel. Easing her down onto one of the beds, plonking atwo pack of extra-strength Tylenol and a glass of water on the nightstand. Whenshe closed her eyes against the pain--not the pain in her calf from thecrossbow bolt, or the bruises on her abdomen, but the one in her very soul thatno meds, not over the counter or prescription, could ever dull--Nikki couldalmost believe it was Ray, in thatother motel.

She listened to the heavy treads of his boots crossing thefew paces from her bed to the dresser. The soft scraping sounds of him pushingstuff around on it, the crinkle of plastic, a sack, maybe. Arranging their belongings,or looking for something. She didn't care what he was doing, was just gratefulhe was here. Taking care of her. He always took such good care of her, her Ray.

And then the footsteps again, toward the door.

"Don't leave!" Nikki's eyes snapped open and she jackknifedin the bed.

The man--not Ray, Wrench--couldn'thave heard her, but he was looking at her anyway. One hand curled around the doorhandle, the other held up the ice bucket with its thin plastic liner.

"Don't leave," Nikki repeated, her own voice soundingmuffled to ears as her blood rushed to her head.

Wrench brandished the ice bucket again, gesticulating withit as he released the door handle to point at her.

"Yeah, I know it's for me," Nikki explained. "Thatwhy I'm telling you not to leave…"

If only she'd told Ray...In her dreams, she knelt beside himon the floor of his apartment, the knees of her tracksuit soaked with hisblood. Don't leave, she begged, sobbingas she pressed her fingers to his neck. Don'tleave, Ray.

But he couldn't hear her. He'd already left.

"Don't leave," she sobbed, stretching her hand outto the man who couldn't hear her.

Wrench stared at her. Huffed out a sigh. Stepped away fromthe door and set the ice bucket back on the dresser.

And didn't leave.

Three months later, holding a suitcase of money he didn'twant, Wrench watched Nikki walk away. Everything in him wanted to break hissilence and repeat those two words back to her, but he didn't. Nikki wasn'tdeaf, but she wouldn't have heard.

She'd already left.

Prompt for Thranduil/Tauriel: "Why?" This is a terrible prompt, so feel free to toss it and write anything you like. ;)

“Why?”

It is a demand. She has no right to lay a demand upon the King, no right to even ask an explanation for his edict. But Tauriel not only demands it of him, she flings the word into his face like a thrown gauntlet and stands ready for the duel she fully anticipates in return.

It does not come. He makes no reply at all, merely sips again from his goblet and regards her with pale, frost-frozen eyes. How those eyes have goaded her, haunted her! How she has studied their moods, tried to glean some sense in their whims! Yet now, she looks at them and does not know what to think.

The silence grows too thick.

“My lord,” she stumbles over her uncertain tongue, “I only mean…have I displeased you in some way? I do not understand why you would take me from the front, from my soldiers, and ask me to guard the Palace instead.”

She does not know his reasoning, but she suspects. Already whispers have traveled through the forest that Legolas prefers danger at the front to safety at his father’s side. Tauriel cannot bear to think on the fact that in those whispers, her name and the prince’s are often tied together.

Surely the King knows she has more sense to believe…

These thoughts are treasonous; even more so, they are baseless. She will not entertain them.

The King has still not spoken, nor has his gaze faltered once from her face. Thranduil is an artist of the stare; she has seen him wither diplomats and supplicants with a look. Yet she cannot understand what he means her to do.

“You are but one Captain,” he speaks at last, in a voice of thunder; one neither to be challenged nor resisted. “Think you that the war will be lost in your absence?”

“By no means,” she bows, “Yet to remove me from my soldiers, to put another in command over them; moreover, to place me in the Palace where I have never served…I only ask so that I may understand your reasoning.”

“You need not understand anything save that it is my desire you shall be in the Palace, where I may see you when I will.”

She flinches. So he has heard the rumors. Her skin flushes and crawls as though spiders have hatched beneath her skin.

“Will you stand against my will?”

“No, my Lord.”

“Do you deny me the right to do as I please with my soldiers?”

“No, my Lord.”

“Very well. You need not return to the front; my steward will provide you with all you need. Your watch begins in an hour; I suggest you make ready.”

“Yes, my Lord.”

He seems at last to take pity on her, now that she has bent to his will.

“Stop with me awhile. The wine is good, and your journey has been long and cold.”

He pours for her and allows her to sit. Yet he stands and watches still, watches as her pallor blooms rosy with wine and her eyes sparkle like white gems in the firelight.
