Magic by Misdirection @ Interesting Talks
After a baby induced hiatus, it was fantastic to get my brain back in action tonight with a new venue for sketchnoting. I stumbled across Interesting Talks on Meetup.com and saw a few that might be, well, interesting to attend.
Tonight's speaker was James Brown who spoke about Magic by Misdirection. A very engaging speaker, he wasn't even stopped by a broken hand -- certainly something when the key premise was showing how magic is performed.
The talk got me thinking, if good magic is about attention management, are user experience designers magicians? I can certainly think of examples when we use the "off beat" for forces of good and evil, adding sneaky charges when we are focused on filling a form, or perhaps showing what additional plumbing items are needed when ordering a bath.
Hopefully over the next few months I'll be getting back into the swing of things and sharing sketchnotes more regularly.
Update 5th March -- James has written a blog post about his talk with my sketchnote included.
