LYSITHEA WAS LIGHT AS A FEATHER , so lifting her wasn’t an issue at all , yet for a challenge , Leonie decided to try and do it one-handed … Two handed was an easy lift , and while one-handed lifts were obviously a lot more challenging , with a bit of welly , she was able to achieve the feat .

THE     WEIGHT     OF     BATTLE          bores   down   on   her   shoulders   ,    a   guilt   carved   into   her   chest   ,    settled   deep   in   her   bones       (      this   was   a   fight   for   her   sake   ,    a   battle   for   her   benefit   ,      &&      she’s   put   them   in   danger    ——       but   there   are   smiles   on   faces   ,    relief   in   voices   .    they   don’t   seem   to   mind   .      )       perhaps   it   is   a   rather   forlorn   air   that   she   exudes   ,    frowning   at   a   particularly   interesting   patch   of   torn   earth   ,    having   moved   not   an   inch   from   the   chaos’   conclusion   .    vaguely   aware   of   the   excited   buzz   ,    the   deer   riding   victory’s   high    ——       marianne   doesn’t   partake   ,    lost   in   contemplation   .

IT’S     HER     NAME     THAT     SNAPS     HER     OUT     OF     IT     ,          a   moment   of   sharp   surprise   ,    wide   eyes   turn   to    ——       lysithea   ,      &&      there   is   a   breath   of   relief   .    her   voice   is   clear   as   a   bell   ,    but   her   expression   is   difficult   to   read       (      marianne   has   healed   many   people   ,    now   ,    seen   a   great   many   emotions   .    she’s   not   the   reserved   girl   she   once   was    ——       but   this   is   still   foreign   to   her   .      )       her   frown   fades   somewhat   ,    some   of   the   tension   melting   from   her   shoulders   .    it’s   over   ,    now   .         ❛       lysithea   ...       ❜         her   eyes   are   searching   ,    curious   ,    though   her   tone   betrays   her   concern   .         ❛       you’re   not   hurt   ,    are   you   ?       ❜
