❛ — Papa had better not though, or else he’ll spoil his appetite for supper.

It feels odd to be referring to him in the third person when he’s stood right there, but the lightheartedness to the conversation is enough to help suppress just how difficult it’s been, trapped in a house with only a demanding infant for company. She’s too grateful for actual words again, for sentences rather than shrill little squeaks and cries.

Preferably after bath time, which she will graciously be imposing upon him this evening. She’s had to wrangle Anya all day, so it’s only fair that he pulls his weight so that she can spend fifteen minutes sprawled out in bed, napping away like nobody’s business. She’s exhausted, but in the happy kind of way, rather than hour upon hour of doing something you truly hate.

❛ — I don’t know how she does it. She’s always hungry, barely sleeps until you’re home and just…fussy isn’t even the word Max.

Max chewed his lip as he walked beside her, his hand snaking into hers as nerves bubbled in the pit of his stomach. Swallowing hard, the boy quickly kissed her cheek and ran off once they'd arrived at her home, a deep blush adorning his own cheeks. "Do jutra!" (*throws tiny Max at you*)

It’s easier than you’d think, to fall in line beside your best friendand remain completely oblivious to the way of the world. Granted,she’s still got a few years on him yet, but even with that added maturity,Magda’s still a little slow on the uptake for deciding what she feels andwhen. She’s happy as it is, blissfully unaware of the courageous cogsturning within Max’s skull, as their arms swing back and forth in easycontentment.

That kiss comes out of nowhere and it nearly makes her squeal. She’sused to her Matka doing it, or maybe sometimes Papa, but Max isneither of those things and the horror stories of cooties being passedaround the playground are enough to make her dainty nose crinkle.It’s not bad though, she will admit, it’s just odd, a little strange displayfrom her nearest and dearest, that has sent blood rushing to either cheekin a way she’s not sure she really understands.

“…Na razie!” She calls after him, fingers trailing over the cheek he’d justpecked as she shakes that head of misbehaving curls and stifles the risingbeginnings of a giggle. Boys were so strange.
