Ok. I had fun with Episode 1. Twas cute. but we have to have A Certain Conversation about Mirai Days before I go on with it.
Like......anyone else getting whiplash going from this from OtonaPre?
Otonapre (depsite its flaws) exists because. It Has A Message To Say! to the young women who watched the original as children, and has a really bittersweet yet slightly hopeful take about reality, growing up, and the nature of dreams and Grown Up Problems (TM). this is the Specific Intention by the Producer's own words.
In contrast, the vibes im getting from Mirai Days is like. "it's more mahopre! yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy :D" because mahopre is fondly looked upon by the adult otaku for Various Reasons. Not to say it won't have anything meaningful to say but like….this is gonna be pretty much nostalgia + fanservice out the wazoo 24/7. It's just More Precure. and it's not like mirai days is hiding that fact.(in terms of air date, look, etc) It was announced as "Mahoutsukai Precure 2": just a sequel, and really not much more than that.
This isn't a condemnation of it existing in the first place, mind you! (Though I do think the whiplash between the two is so. Stark especially since they were announced as part of the same initiative and even share the same director) I just think in addition to BokuPre it's really interesting that they're just throwing out the net in terms of "what does Precure look like for adults? What do our adult fans want?" and seeing what sticks. Bokupre is preparing for its sequel, so I wonder if Mirai Days is successful enough in Toei's eyes that More Things like it will pop up.
that's it for now. I'll probably have More Things To Say Later when the plot actually gets going lol.
