grovyle or chara (or both if u want) :+) ?
i will do chara bc they are on the mind sjldkfjsd
chara
favorite thing: in a meta sense, the way they connect to the themes/playing around with the video game medium! say what you will abt narra chara but cmon, making the item text/narrator an important character is exactly the kind of thing a video game deconstruction would do. its just an interesting concept to me inherently and i love it! and i like their role concerning the games theme of consequences. like how they're the one holding you accountable for the no mercy run even in pacifist runs, and how theyre the one who pushes the run to its end both because you have corrupted them to that point, and because they're annoyed that you caused all this carnage and don't like the idea of not seeing it through, and are annoyed that you want to go frolick in the pacifist run after all that. it's just interesting to me, theyre a very tragic character and i just find them investing.
least favorite thing: probably how they treated asriel when they were alive? im not saying its proof that chara was this evil demon child all along and abused the dreemurr family or whatever, but i don't really like how other people talking about narra chara just push their actions to asriel and his feelings about them under the rug. like, asriel did agree to the plan but you can't really ignore the fact that chara DID pressure him into it, plus the hint that they mocked him for crying. again, doesnt make them evil murder child and theyre 12 so they arent gonna be perfect, but i do see hints of like. chara projecting some of their trauma onto asriel and pushing for their way and their way only. so yeah, while i love them, i totally understand asriel and them possibly having a strained relationship in postgame because that makes sense considering... well, everything.
fanon pet peeves: i mean. do i need to point out the elephant in the room. i did already mention the asriel pet peeve earlier tho so yeah evil murder child chara that never loved the dreemurrs and was evil incarnate the whole time and forced frisk to kill the monsters. it's just... aside from the fact that all of that is just extremely tasteless to begin with considering chara is heavily implied to have had trauma from the surface, it's just.... so uninteresting? like in a game where every single main character is multifaceted, including the villain that has murdered people over and over for fun and the puppet antagonist, why are fans so intent to stop that with the first human? really think about how appalling and boring that is to go "ok the character thats a one dimensional killer who doesnt care about anything is the first human who had an established bond with 3 other main characters and was the one who set off the entire plot of the game"
like, even if you DO want to go down the "chara is the one initiating no mercy route" (which doesnt make sense, but lets just look) why not explore their feelings about murdering their mother, and later father and brother? why not look into WHY they are doing this beyond "eh they are murder child thats why"? why not take the opportunity to explore more lore about them and why they are doing this? all because a game not having a single one-dimensional character is just too much for people to comprehend? it's just appalling, and even more so when people push back against the idea that chara ISNT a one dimensional murder child for no real reason. because god forbid we have an actual interesting story beat to explore beyond "sans beats up evil villain and is a tragic hero" right?
