I was traveling back from Shillong to Nongstoin and got to witness this very famous fishing competition.

It was unusually hot in Shillong. El nino and whatnot. It started raining when we reached Ksehkohlong. What beautiful places and what a beautiful season. Monsoon in khasi hills is windows wallpaper.

I got to witness this competition last year on my way back to Ampati. What a coincidence to witness this again.

The Church,The school and the Village-Acrylic on canvas(size 38x60inches)2015 This painting was commissioned by the ex-students of Mairang L P school(now Mairang Presbyterian Academy Secondary School) in 2015 as a gift to the school for its Platinum jubilee celebration in 2015. The painting is an attempt to depict Mairang Mission from about 75years ago(with the Mairang Presbyterian Church,Mairang L P school and the Welsh Missionaries Bungalow).The image is an illustration from fragments of history recollect through collective memories of the place.Mainly from stories told by the Ex-students and some elderly people of Mairang Village and also few old photographs that is available(small black and white photograph documenting the damage of the church and school building caused by a storm).The present landscape has changed drastically in the last 75 years. As an artist i had the opportunity to revisit the old time of my Village through stories from this project and bringing it to life in the form of this painting. Mairang is not only about church and School.This is just a fragment of it
