It started off like any other day since he got to Newstark, honestly.
He had woken up at the crack of dawn, still sleepy from the lack of sleep, and had gotten up to shower and get ready for the up-coming school day. He had actually eaten that morning too for once, his stomach growling at him angrily for having missed dinner the night before-- Having skipped it in favor of finishing grading an essay he had given out as punishment for the chaos his class had started after he left for barely ten minutes to deal with a call from the principal.
The early hours of his day was simple, a couple of classes and then a free block for paperwork-- And then lunch.
It wasn't hard to tell when exactly Izaya had noticed her through the crowd, or why he did when he was busy having a conversation with another teacher. However something went in the back of his mind, and he felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand up in the way they did when danger was close-- Cutting him off mid-sentence as he suddenly frowned to himself, raising a hand to rub at the back of his neck as he suddenly whipped around; Not really caring that much that the teacher he had been speaking to stared at him like he was crazy.
Again, it was something he was used to.
No, he just ignored the teacher as he surveyed the crowd of students milling through the building and laughing with one another until something caught his eye.
A familiar face through a wall of students, only to disappear as the crowd surged slightly-- Closing the gap.
Izaya practically felt the colour drain from his face, only to shake his head a moment later.
There's no way! You're just tired and hallucinating, it's no big deal.
Exceppppttt something in the back of his mind was nagging at him, making him worry despite his efforts to ignore it. Cursing quietly, he raised a hand both in apology and in dismissal as he turned and walked around the wall of students-- Only to freeze when he found himself in front of a familiar young girl.
One of his younger sisters.
Oh no.
"Mairu?! What are you doing here!"
A pause.
"---...And where's Kururi?!"
It was strange to see either of them alone, so of course he had to ask.
