Ok maybe this is a dumb question but what exactly is wrong with the selection tag? I haven't had any problems with it, it looks normal to me... Is it the 'the selection' tag or the 'the selection tumblr tag' that we're complaining about? bc the first is fine but the second is weird....
Tumblr is awful, that’s what.
You can no longer track tags and see all the the posts tagged “the+selection” when you type it in to search.
THERE IS A FIX. If you manually type in “tumblr.com/tagged/the+selection” in the url bar, it will take you to the tagged page.
Otherwise, it takes you to the horrible grid layout of “most popular” or “most recent” things tagged with “the+selection” which automatically weeds out some posts and with the different sizes of posts, they overlap each other so it’s annoying to reblog some of them, and they only show you 1 image from photosets and blow it up to gross porportions. Not to mention, it now adds recommended posts from the tags you now “follow” instead of “track, on your dashboard.
Soon, I’m sure it will go the way of Facebook and only show you popular posts from blogs you follow or visit regularly or curated content for you and we’ll all have to search for anything worth reblogging or liking and go to everyone’s blogs to find decent content.
*Sigh* I’ve lost track of all the changes Tumblr has made, and I’ve been incensed by everyone one, and maybe I seem irrational for this problem, which (for now) you can fix by typing in the url, but for how long? How long until they automatically redirect you?
I can handle when they made a post and ask limit. I can handle when they randomly changed the tumblrblue three dhaes darker. I can handle changing the “tumblr” logo to just the “t” in the upper left corner. I can handle when they moved our blogs to a dropdown box. I can even handle the awful mobile theme when SO MANY people now use as their dashboard theme. I can handle when they changed the width of posts from 500 pcx to 540 ,px ACTUALLY NO I CANNOT HANDLE THAT AND STILL CANNOT, WHICH IS WHY I USE A STYLISH style that doesn’t rescale images. Everything created in 500 px still appears that way with some white space around it and everything in 540 px appears that way also. EVERYONE SHOULD USE IT.
I can handle change and adapt to it. Websites can’t stay stagnant or they get left behind.
However, Tumblr’s notification of changes all occurs through the staff page, where they’re like “oops, we took away replies to make them better. you’ll get them back sometime.” ????? That’s like waking up in the hospital and the doctor saying “we removed your kidneys. We’ll get you a new pair soon.” But your kidneys were functioning perfectly and you never went to the hospital in the first place. They’re going to replace that with a Facebook-esque comment feature; I just know it.
Does Tumblr even do beta testing with users to find out what features we do want? If they did, we might actually have a chat feature. I don’t know everything involved in running a website, let alone a social media platform. I’m sure there are reports and bugs that make sense to fix and adapt to that don’t make sense to us.
But I’m exhausted from Tumblr taking advantage of its users and not taking our input into account. And I’m exhausted that I have to use Chrome Extensions, and Stylish, and the new XKit to use the website in a way that’s functional and easy, because the website won’t provide that on its own. And this post will do nothing and petitions will do nothing.
If anyone wants to give feedback, send them a message instead (which doesn’t even have it’s own link? Go to this page and scroll to the bottom and select Contact Us). They respond to everything (though the message I received after I complained about the changes to reblogs+comments was entirely rude and patronizing).
Sorry this turned into a rant about many other things than The Selection tag, but I’ve been keeping my feelings about this crap website in for a while and I needed a release.
