Building a Faithful Framework for Biblical Interpretation

• God is a majestic and awesome God.

• The Bible is the word of God, with his truthfulness.

• God has a plan for history, and he rules over all.

• Christ is at the center of history; he is the one who accomplishes salvation and reveals God climactically.

• We need God's redemption in order to understand the Bible.

• Revelation is progressive.

• We should pay attention to what God meant and communicated to the original recipients of a particular book of the Bible. Further implications that we find ("import") should build on this meaning.

• We should pay attention to the historical context and literary context of any one passage in the Bible, and not treat it as if it were isolated.

• We should pay attention to the texture of the history of redemption and the larger purposes of God.

• God is always richer than what we have already discovered.

• We should be humble and patient in participating in the gradual process of growing in understanding what God says in the Bible.
