TL;DR— Major Oswald met a gay man after they were both discharged from the military for different reasons and became the LGBTQIA+ Communities Strongest Defender™.
Major Oswald learned about the LGBTQ+ community in the 1960s. Not too long after leaving with a medical discharge due losing his arm in the war, he met a fellow soldier who was also discharged as well with a 'blue discharge' because he was gay. Despite the behaviors of the time, he couldn't understand why'd they let him go since he was a fine enough soldier like he was and became quick colleagues. Over the years, he'd get to know the man and his friends across the LGBTQIA+ community. To this day despite his gruff demeanor— Oswald is a staunch ally and supporter, even willing to risk his job in the following years as a drill Sargent by not outting LGBTQIA+ soldiers.
