Rodgina FMP # 12

Regina let the warmth wrap around her as the bar swallowed them up. Cinnamon, stale beer, pine-scented something hanging from a fixture that definitely wasn’t meant to hold decorations. People packed tight, shaking snow from their hair and stomping clumps from their boots.
Rodrick glanced back at her once, only long enough to check she was behind him, then wove through the crowd toward the bar. They found a small standing table where he plopped his gloves. She watched him disappear into the cluster of puffy jackets and ugly sweaters, an elf hanging from a rafter clipping at his head as he walks away.
Some guy bumped her on his way past, muttering an apology without looking at her. She scowled as she adjusted her hat. Well, his hat.
Regina spent the whole day pretending the cold hadn’t gotten to her. She’d picked a cute outfit over anything remotely practical and was utterly miserable and trying not to let Rodrick notice.
But she ended up in this ugly ass hat. He'd yanked it off his head and settled it down over hers, the heat immediately warming her ears. She'd rolled her eyes in the moment, but the slopes were more fun after.
She'd never admit out loud but she liked that he noticed. She didn't have to passive aggressively complain in order to get what she wanted.
She watched Rodrick at the counter, half-turned toward her while the bartender poured. He did that thing he always did, checking she's where he left her. Making sure she hadn't wondered off or just left. When he caught sight of her, the corner of his mouth turned up. He gave her a 'I told you you'd get cold' look.
She responded with a lazy, unimpressed half-lift of her brows. He grinned at that, turning back to the bartender, taking the beers with a quick thanks, dropping some bills into the tip jar.
He slid beside her with the two pints and handed hers over. His mouth twitched, amused at something.
"Your friends are already drunk," he said, nodding toward the loud crowd by the pool tables.
"They're your friends too."
"Yeah," he said, "I guess you're right."
He took a long sip from his pint, eyes following the chaos near the pool tables. Coats were piled on a stool. Courtney was was using tinsel garland to pull Meagan in toward her, rocking together to the rhythm of the music.. Rodrick made a low noise in his throat, something between amusement and regret that he knew these people.
Normally Regina and Rodrick were right in the mix but tonight they both hung back.
Rodrick stood close enough that their jackets brushed when someone shoved past. He looked worn in the same way she felt: eyes a little heavier, limbs a little slower, hair still damp at the ends from melted snow.
He wasn’t hiding it. He wasn’t pretending to be wired and rowdy like the others. He just stood beside her, quiet, letting the room move around them.
A burst of laughter rose from the pool tables. Someone spotted them lingering at the edge of things and waved for them to join in.
Rodrick sighed into his beer. Regina gave him a sympathizing look, but pushed off the wall, catching his hand in hers, dragging him toward their friends.
They'd barely settled in when Meagan pointed her camera at them with a grin.
Regina was mid sip when she saw a flash. She licked her lips and smiled. She felt the weight of Rodrick's arm around her shoulder as Megan snapped a couple more pics.
Meagan lowered the camera and made a satisfied noise. "Oh, these are cute."
Regina was already leaning over as Meagan turned the display toward them. They were cute. Rodrick squeezed her shoulder as he peeked over her shoulder.
Something in her chest tightened.
"They are cute." She said under her breath. "Send them to me."
"I will when I upload them." Megan said.
Rodrick glanced at her, subtle, like he didn't want to make a thing out of it. She pretended she wasn't starting to read him as well as he reads her.
The way he turned the glass in his hand, the way he tapped his thumb against the rim. The background noise didn’t bother him on loud nights, but tonight it pressed at the edges a little too hard.
She slid her hand along his forearm. “I’m getting pretty tired.”
He just nodded once, took her glass from her fingers, and carried both drinks back to the tiny table without a word.
“Heading out,” he told the group.
They groaned, but said their goodbyes and goodnights.
Rodrick pulled on his gloves and held open a path through the crowd. She slid her hand into the crook of his arm.
“Thanks,” she said softly once they were out of earshot.
She let him think she was the one calling it early.
And maybe she was.
Just not for the reason she gave.

The nations just stared at the beautiful women in front of them. Her slim hourglass body curves in every perfect spot. Her silky h/l, h/c sitting on her shoulder. She had an angered expression on her face. She was clearly pissed off. She stormed through the room and slammed her fist down in front of Russia. She pulled a pistol from her belt and held it too him. Nobody was sure what to do. "I guess you're not so different," y/n growled. "Now I'm sure we can all work this out," UN said nervously. "You wanna give my bullets a try?" Y/n said with snicker.
She ran too her bedroom and slammed her door, startling her roommates.
She started listen to 'All you wanna do' on her headphones. After a bit she sang, "I thought this time was different~ Why did I think he was different~but it's never ever different~!" She lied down on her bed and cried herself too sleep.
