小雪過後天氣變得更冷，大雪紛飛，雪到此時轉大故名大雪。

有句俗諺「小雪小到，大雪大到」，它的意思是：從小雪時節，烏魚群就慢慢進入臺灣海峽；到了大雪時節，因為天氣越來越冷，烏魚沿水溫線向南迴流，匯集的烏魚群也越來越多，整個台灣西部沿海都可以捕獲烏魚，產量非常豐富！
