The Family Christmas Tin
My grandmother recently gifted me all of her crafting supplies, and along with it came this large tin. It’s the kind of ordinary tin that you’d find those flavored popcorns in.
Inside was taped a long handwritten letter about the history of this particular tin though.
Her family grew up during the (original) great depression, and scrimped and saved and made things come christmas time instead of just buying things. In the letter, she explained that her mother would knit socks for everyone, and have hunted for deals on discount yarn or colors that had been discontinued. She’d include sweets like cookies and other candy in the tin, and everything would get packaged up in the tin and brought to the house for Christmas day.
This tin would then be brought back home, and used again every Christmas after that.
I absolutely plan to continue this tradition, with this special tin... and really need to get cracking on those socks...
