As a final post tonight - I saw this on createdigital music, and was really blown away at how analog finds a way into our lives, despite the digital masses. I remember when I was about 14, the news had a story about an entrepreneur in Montreal, who owned one of the worlds first video-disc store. The concept, I thought, was pretty cool. Somebody had essentially pressed an analog video signal to a vinyl plate, and made a receiver box that would turn that signal back into video, for your viewing pleasure. The image had no fidelity to speak of, and very much resembled a late - 1800's attempt at capturing the glory and wonder of the 'moving picture'. But it was cool, and it was analog. I think the take away from this, is that we go analog, because we can; there is something magical about finding new ways to use old technology. It almost helps us draw a line between our interests, and those who made them available to us. Why would someone ever want to make a paper-craft turntable? Because we can, and it is so much more fun / interesting / thought provoking then throwing on your busted-ass Neil Diamond LP.
