HEY YA'LL! Time to review another hand-made espurr! I turns out that obsessively following the espurr tag like a psychopath with OCD has paid off, because I now own this little baby!
This darling was made by Makeshiftwings30. She is made from minky (SUPER SOFT), her facial features and psychic emitters are all embroidered, and she is just over 12" tall standing, making her life-sized! I call her 'Demon,' after my in-game shiny espurr girl. 83
Let's start with everything I love about this plush. First off, she is the perfect color of shiny pink! As I mentioned earlier, the material is SUPER soft. Like... I know my fabrics and I've felt minky fabric before but something about how this girl was stuffed? I don't know. I was just floored with how plush she was when I took her out of the box. This plush is SUPER soft and SUPER huggable. Like... I need some washing instructions because this precious baby espurr is totally my con buddy for the foreseeable future.
I adore that her little ears are not sewn down to her head like the official espurr plushes. They are SO cute and floppy I cannot even handle it! It's even better because I wanted a Demon plush that I could put hats on (to keep her ears down!) and this girl is perfect for that, since everyone knows that an espurr without a hat is a danger to itself and others. PUT ON A HAT!!
She is also life-sized, which is something I cannot get enough of!! I have been shopping for a shiny espurr plush like this for MONTHS, and the ones I found were either already sold, not for sale, or I just wasn't a huge fan of the design. Several months ago I inquired to about half a dozen plush artists looking for a life-sized shiny espurr and none of them were interested. This brings me to another thing I love about this plush... the price. $150 may seem a lot to some, but this is a lovely piece of work and definitely on the shallow end of the pricing pool if you want something nice from the handmade plush market.
Now on to a couple nit-picks. First off is the embroidery. It's a tiny bit loose and sloppy in places so the pink minky fur shows through (I saw this some in the photos the creator posted so I wasn't surprised.)
Second thing is the face. The way the pattern is done, it's almost like the face was sewn on like a mask, rather than being a part of the whole head. I'm guessing that constructing it this way made it easier for the machine to sew the facial embroidery. BUT I have to say that sewing the head in this way makes the face SO much less unnervingly flat, which I see in a LOT of custom espurr plushies.
Guys? Listen. Guys? I'm serious here. Your flat espurr skulls are freaking me out. Stoppit. I'd buy so much more of your shit if you took a page out of makeshiftwings30's book and made the heads more rounded. Espurr is an adorable little floppy eared mass of spontaneous destruction. Not a book mark.
*ahem* Both of my nit-picks are indeed nit-picks and I feel like I had to stretch some for them to make this a well-rounded review of the work. This is seriously an amazing plush and I am totally satisfied with the quality, price AND speed of shipping! Holy GOD. When I saw the box at my door this morning, I thought it was the calendars I'd ordered off ebay last week because NO WAY was it the adorable shiny espurr plush I'd bought and "Holy, shit, why did they send me two calendars in such a large box? That's a waaAHHHH SHINY ESPURR!!!"
Overall: 9.5 out of 10. I am beyond satisfied and would totally throw my money at makeshiftwings30 again. She's an insanely good plush artist and I recommend her work to any and all of my followers. I fact, she has several plush projects going on at the moment that deserve more attention! Check out her tumblr here and her DA account here!
