You're going to makeup school!? That's so exciting! I want to go too but it can be so expensive!! Do you think it's necessary to have professional training to be a makeup artist?

Yes I am ! :) I start the end of the month! My course is costing about $6000 and for the training I’m getting it’s a really fair price. Some school in Canada are 20,000 to 27,000!

I also do feel as if you need professional training to be a makeup artist. I think there are tons of ‘makeup artists’ who are now self-taught on YouTube but I don’t believe they are true makeup artist. In order to be able to do freelance and artistry work you do need to be certified, or you can get in trouble. It’s the same thing for those who do hair, they have to be certified to work on clients. I think YouTube gives the cosmetics industry a bad name because I feel as if they are just saying “Oh start a YouTube channel, teach yourself makeup and get tons of followers and then you’re a makeup artist” but it’s WAY more work than that. At the end of the day my stance is: would I want just anyone working on my wedding makeup or my makeup? No, I would want some trained and professional to do it, not someone who is self-taught. Like what if they don’t have the hygiene down....it just freaks me out! And all MUA’s should be trained or certified to some extent!

If you have a dream follow it! The money should stop you from doing what you love. Because at the end of the day when you are happy in your career and working full time later in life, that money can be paid back :D
