Rant about the Potential of Piper McLean
Okay, as much as I love Rick, he has a bad habit of placing stereotypes in his book. Like instantly villainizing Drew Tanaka as a “popular girl with perfect makeup”. I feel like he could have made Piper a daughter of Aphrodite who corrected the mistake he made of stereotyping the children of Aphrodite in PJO. In PJO, he made them airheads who just talked about boys all the time (like Silena who betrayed camp half blood at first because Luke was attractive?). Piper could have been such a cool character, who was half Cherokee, who was beautiful, who wore makeup because it made her confident, who wore makeup in cool ways because she could change her eye color depending on the eye shadow or the reflection of the clothes she wore. She could have had such a cool aesthetic and been such a cool person who used her image, her confidence as a show of beauty. She could have been an upbeat character who spreads love to whoever she can, and also seeks the attention of boys to have a companion, rather than just to have a hot boyfriend.
