DAYLIGHT BULBS FOR YOUR MAKEUP WORK
I know a lot of you ask in regards to taking images, so I thought I would do a little blog post on the lights I use at home.
Now these I do not take with me to jobs, it would be to much of a faff. I keep them at home in my makeup room/study. I am looking at TML (The Makeup Light) for transporting to jobs. This is regarded as the best in the business, it is used at countless fashion weeks, and lots of top artists use it for early starts on jobs. The starter package will be ideal, and you can apply for pro discount. (always helps) I could have really done with one of those this weekend at my wedding, especially now it is still dark at 7.30-8am when I start my makeup. Here is the link to TML -http://themakeuplight.com/
So back to the lights I use - these are soft boxes. You can see in this image I have the flexibility of fitting 4 bulbs, which I love. I also have 2 other soft boxes which just have one bulb fitting. I tend to use this 4 bulb one for my key light as I can have it even brighter, I can also adjust the bulbs if i want, by taking some out.
Daylight bulbs are the best choice for you because they have no yellow/warm tints in. It is pure daylight lighting. You do not want it to cool wither as it will end up having a blue tint. So the bulbs you are looking for are around 5500k. That huge bulb I have in the image is brand new I ordered 2 of Ebay for just £9. I chose these as they have a higher wattage and are energy saving. Plus they are brighter. Perfect for when I film and do my photography.
Since getting these softboxes I have not looked back, they are just perfect for seeing clients later in the day or early morning. Even during the day if the light outside is dull, I just close my blackout curtains and hit these babies up. Honestly the clarity and light they give is amazing to show off your makeup work. You get such a great light on the subjects skin which means you can match colours perfectly.
I ordered my soft boxes all from Amazon. I got x2 boxes with one bulb fitting in for around £35, and X1 with 4 bulb fittings in for £65. So not to bad at all. Just pop in soft boxes on ebay and you will get a great choice. All very cost effective. When they are not in use I just take them down and store them in my cupboard.
I will be doing a test shoot this Wednesday so I will take an image with using these and one without so you can see the difference.
Any questions please do ask
