A lot of what we need for art and design just needs to be made. I mean, I love an art supply shop like nobody's business, but making my own supplies always connects me to a larger world, the ancestors that came before me, the ingenuity of what they accomplished. I think it's important to see what we can do without spending a ton of money. So I borrowed my brother's grill and some aluminum foil and we set out to make our own charcoal today in design class. Next week we'll draw with it and probably make more. We're also making ink and paint from scratch. It's gonna get messy.
