They didn’t have heart beats. They didn’t need to breathe.
Sensing the creatures that surrounded him was difficult, but not impossible. It was the little things, like the displacement of water or almost silent whisper of fabric that told Daredevil where the creatures stood.
When that failed, he could always find one when it slammed into him.
One of the creatures pounced on him and he landed on his back, glad that he wasn’t face down in the water. It clawed at him, mouth open, breathing raggedly as it tried to bite at him. Of course now it was breathing loudly enough for him to hear it from a mile away.
The creature continued to lean forward towards his face. It’s superior strength meant that it kept getting closer and closer, but it’s actions helped Daredevil understand what he was fighting.
He waited until the last moment to flip the vampire over his head and onto its back before he rolled with it, pinning the creature. He quickly wrapped his cables around it’s neck and planted his foot on its chest before he stood, pulling at either end of his clubs as hard as he could manage.
He wasn’t an expert on vampires, but there were a couple of things that he did know where a constant. He knew they weren’t alive and he knew that decapitation was bad for them.
With a grunt of effort, he felt the vampire that had started to claw at his boot turn to dust. His cable snapped back into place and his foot splashed down in the water that rushed to take the remains of the creature with it.
He heard the subtle sounds of more vampires moving closer. He also heard the subtle but familiar sound of machinery. He smiled, relieved. “If you aren’t busy,” he called to the futurist, “I would enjoy some help.”
