Soar

Scar: Someone I want to kill.

  "Someone Ah'd like t'kill eh?" Mal rubs a hand over his stubble and sucks on his teeth in thought. Not something to be taken lightly, a persons life. He couldn't honestly see himself killing anyone. It just wasn't in him. Though he supposed if certain circumstances were met, he'd kill to save his own life but that was about it.

  "Ah don't rightly know who Ah'd kill, t'be perfectly honest. Ah s'pose if some one were t'cross me bad enough Ah'd kill 'em. But as it stands now? Nobody."

Morrigan, Rhiannon, Odin, Thor

Morrigan: What do you think happens when we die?

"Ah think we jus' die. Do no' think much else happens t'us t'be honest." Mal shrugs. He was pretty sure that once you died that was it. There was no after life, no hell nor paradise. Just rot and eternal dark. He could be wrong, but he wouldn't know until he died. Religion and the threat of damnation and promise of eternal peace were just threats and promises for the mortal world, ideals to be observed and practiced to keep those that need rules and structure in line.

Rhiannon:Have you ever been betrayed?

"Betrayed? Nar, Ah ain't never been betrayed. Ah do no' have nothin' t'be betrayed over. Besides which, 'eryone knows no' t'feck 'round with me. They'd get a swift kick on t'backside or worse, if'n y'ken what Ah mean." Mal grinned and rubbed at his jaw. He had no one close to him that would betray him for something. Even in school and the academy he'd not had anything worth being betrayed over. 

Odin:What is your family like?

"Me family? Oh, there's me Da, he's a respectful sort. Used t'run himself a nice lab. Produced some hextech time pieces he did. Ickle pocket watches n' what not. Posh things, sort o' high class frivolities. Did him some other stuff too, but tha's water un'er the bridge." He chuckles and shakes his head, "Me mum, she's a different type all t'gether again. She's an administrator type. Always doin' numbers n' that sort o' thing. Both o' 'em are retired now. Enjoyin' themselves, no' havin' t'worry 'bout work n' such other shet. All n' all they be good folk, aye. No complaints from meself. Good supportin' folk, always go' me back."

Thor:Would you consider yourself pretty powerful?

"Physically Ah'd say Ah'm fairly powerful built, yeah. Though if'n yer talkin' 'bout if'n I have other sorts o' power? Nar, hardly. Ah'm just an oddball that lays on fringe. Ain't hardly a position t'garner power from, neh?" He smirks and shakes his head. No, he definitely was not a powerful individual. He barely registered as a blip on the map.

Days Four & Five of 30 Days of Character Development

4.) How vain is your character? Do they find themselves attractive? 

  Mal isn't particularly vain at all. He'll wear the same pair of pants two days in a row if they're not particularly soiled. He doesn't care if they are a bit rumpled or stained. Seeing as most of his clothes are stained to begin with. He keeps good care of his hair and beard, though that is more of a work hazard than an actual concession to his looks. Grime and dirt are permanently embedded beneath his finger nails, which are kept incredibly short, not to mention the oil that has stained his arms black and grey. His one fondness for his looks is a tattoo of a gear he has on his shoulder. He and a few other of his academy friends all received the same tattoo to commemorate their graduation. He is also currently drafting a simple hammer and anvil design for his other shoulder to acknowledge his elevation to becoming a master black smith.

  Mal doesn't find himself particularly attractive or unattractive. He's a boulder, they simply are. Some are better to look at than others, but more often than not, they're just parts of the landscape. Not to mention nobody has spoken of interest in him either, so as far as he is concerned, he's another face in a sea of faces. He's not particularly bothered by this. In fact it lets him continue with his work with little to no distractions.

5.) What’s your character’s ranking on the Kinsey Scale? 

  Mal is heterosexual. He doesn't mind other orientations, but he's never even batted an eye at anything that wasn't a woman, and even then barely at the women. He doesn't find the idea repugnant or disgusting. He just knows it's not for him. He's confident in who he is and 42 years of life have further confirmed this to him. Not to say that change is not possible, but highly unlikely. The moon would have a better chance falling out of the sky.

  //Mal's favorite song is probably The Cannery by Kevin Macleod. If you listen to it, you'll probably see why. Side note, might make a play list for the main man Mal himself, though forget auto play. I hate having my eardrums assaulted when I visit a page. Let people decide if they wanna listen to your music or not.

  But yeah, that song in particular he will have running almost perpetually through his head as he works. It's literally right up his alley.

☾ for a sleep headcanon

  Mal is a heavy sleeper, though he will suddenly bolt out of bed with little to no warning if his body thinks it has overslept. He likes to stay up late and wake up early, usually getting around five hours of sleep, sometimes if he is lucky six. He doesn't like sleeping on beds, claiming that the right comfort level is never gotten. Either too hard, or too soft. Not to mention the blasted things heat up and are stifling. Instead he's picked up a hammock from Bilgewater, something he found absolutely fantastic. Even though it was just a common room dive, the experience has stuck with him. He likes to be cool, and generally sleeps with his window open unless it is hot or humid. A ceiling fan is on at all times in his room to help keep the air circulating. He also always takes a shower or a plunge into a source of water to cool down before going to bed.

Day One of 30 Days of Character Development.

1.) Describe your character’s relationship with their mother or their father, or both. Was it good? Bad? Were they spoiled rotten, ignored? Do they still get along now, or no?

  Mal has a relatively good relationship with his parents. Both of which are doing fairly well in their older age. Mal's father is Rigsby Zaltdorf and is 76 years old. His mother, Ruby is 74 and still comes to visit once or twice a week to make sure her son is properly eating and taking care of himself. Both of his parents are retired and enjoying their collective time off. Mal infrequently visits, usually on the weekends to share an evening meal and to wrangle with his old man about various theories and ideas. His mother is worried that he's going to stay a bachelor and the Zaltdorf family name will end with Mal. Though both of his parents would desperately love grandchildren, Mal doesn't see himself as the settling down type. He understands how his folks feel, but isn't pressured by them. They understand and support his life choices even if they are a little saddened by them at times.

  Mal is an only child, and as such he garnered his parents full attention. Though not spoiled he definitely did not want for anything. He was well taken care of and his parents nurtured his interests and did not try to sway him from anything. They openly encouraged him to be curious and try and experience new things.

  He has always gotten along with his parents, and continues to do so to this day. He will be devastated when they eventually pass on.
