Malachi | aftermath

Dusk was finally settling and the noises of the night drew Avery out of another one of her fits. Time had passed slowly but fast all at once. She hadn’t left the wreckage of the cabin in little over a week since her encounter with Camilla. The original’s compulsion to enjoy that memory was wearing her thin. Every time her stomach growled, every time she sensed a heartbeat her mind traveled back to the restaurant. And despite the fight to reject the feelings, the memory of blood brought a smile to her lips. It sickened her.
She walked outside, an attempt to occupy her mind. The moon was beautiful, so close to being full. Hadn’t she been warned to avoid leaving safety on the night of the full moon? Maybe in two days time she’d take a mindless stroll and this pain would end. Avery could feel the memory begin to intrude once again. “Don’t think about it, don’t think about it, don’t think about...” She muttered quietly, staring at the floor as if keeping the image of dirt and fallen leaves would distract her.
