Representatives from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) visited Sarangani Province last Thursday, June 6, 2019, to grace the opening of GAMABA Cultural Center and Community Celebration for Bai Estelita Bantilan as one of the declared Gawad ng Manlilika ng Bayan (GAMABA). The GAMABA Cultural Center is located at sitio Upper Lasang, barangay Sapu Masla, Malapatan, Sarangani Province. "Since 1992, the NCCA have been awarding exemplary Filipinos for the Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan (GAMABA). The award is in line with UNESCO’s criteria of Living National Treasures who are persons with high degree of knowledge or skills to perform or recreate elements of intangible cultural heritage." "In addition to the qualifications of UNESCO, recipients must possess a mastery of tools needed in the craft and ties to the indigenous cultural community. Furthermore, they should have revitalized the community’s artistic tradition and are recognized in their community as a master and teacher." Aside from Fu Estelita, Ambalang Ausalin from Lamitan City in Basilan and Yabing Masalon Dulo from Polomolok in South Cotabato also bagged the GAMABA award. Archie Montecillanos Gutang (SK Chairperson of Barangay Lun Padidu & Municipal SK Federation Vice President of Malapatan) and Mary Grace Amisola (Board Member, Sarangani Junior Official) were the guests in "Bilib kami Sa'yo" segment of Voice of the Youth Radio. Archie shared about his life as a volunteer and how it help shaped him as a youth leader. He also shared the advocacies of his group - "Samahan ng Kabataang Volunteer (SKV)." As the SK Chairperson of brgy. Lun Padidu, he talked about their youth programs and activities. While Mary Grace shared about her experience as member of SKV and the environmental projects of Young Organization in Nurturing Green Society (YOUNGS). Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of barangay Lun Padidu (Malapatan) and Sarangani Writers League (SWL) organized a Spoken Word Poetry Talk by Hannah A. Laceña. This talk is part of the celebration of Linggo ng Kabataan (Lun Padidu) which is mandated under RA 10742 or SK Reform Act of 2015. It aims to expose and broaden the knowledge of the participants about spoken word poetry and performance. The Municipality of Malapatan celebrates its 49th Foundation Anniversary and 13th Pakaradyan Festival, with the theme "Mapya Malapatan, Resilient, Inclusive." Pakaradyan, which means celebration or merriment, is a cultural heritage preservation project that aims to promote the town's socioeconomic and cultural development, as well to promote Malapatan as one of the tourism and investment destinations in Sarangani Province. Guinakit sa Sugoda Malapatan (Sailing Competition) is the first event of the festival where the locals showcase the Maguindanaon traditional boat with their own sense of creativity and craftmanship. They also have Bangsamoro Day, Blaan Day/IP Day and Settlers Day to give honor and appreciation to the tri-people living harmoniously in the municipality. Malapatan also launches their municipal jingle called "Mapya Malapatan." It celebrates their cultural diversity, unity of its people, economic progress, and beautiful sceneries of the municipality.
