Southeast Asian Box Turtle

Cuora amboinensis

I couldn’t find what Cuora translates into, while amboinensis means coming from Ambon Island (of Indonesia).

Family: Geoemydidae 

Fun Fact: They are one of the few box turtles that like aquatic areas, and don’t live where the temperature drops under 70 F (21.1 C). (ADW)

Habitat: They are endemic to freshwater ways of rainforests in Southeast Asia.

Ecosystem Role: They help control populations of insects, fish, arthropods, and will eat both aquatic and terrestrial plants and mushrooms fairly often.

Conservation Status: Vulnerable
