Mad Mod
Neil Richards had been a moderately successful fashion designer situated in the celebrated Carnaby Street of Westminster, UK. He was renown for his liberal use of a ‘mod’ style with lots of geometric patterns, bold colors and sharp lines. He used his fashion line as a front to smuggle contraband in and out of the United Kingdom. His schemes were found out and Richards was ruined.
Not long thereafter, he returned under the moniker of the 'Mad Mod' and enacted a dastardly plot to steal the crown jewels of the Royal Family. His efforts were thwarted by the intervention of the youthful group of superheroes, the Teen Titans.
The Mad Mod would return on several occasions with endeavors to garner his revenge and destroy the Teen Titans. He employed a gang of hired goons to do his bidding and constructed elaborate deathtraps, many using psychedelic effects. Thankfully, The Titans were always able to prevail and The Mad Mod was routinely defeated.
Some years later, Richards reformed and returned to his original passion of fashion design. Indeed he even became the official costume designer for the Titans.
Following the Nu52 reboot continuity, The Mad Mod was reimagined as villain belonging to a secretive gang known as Diablo. Herein, he aided the villainous Mister Twister in taking down the Teen Titans; once more he was defeated.
Mad Mod featured in the Teen Titans animated series, voiced by the great Malcolm McDowel. The villain first appeared in the pages of Teen Titans Vol. 1 #7 (1967).
