Thoughts on 2x07
So I liked the episode, I did. I’m not knocking it at all. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but what I didn’t enjoy was how it was promoted, which I think is the case with a lot of people. They promoted the shit out of this episode, Todd included, like it was a Malec centric episode. However, we barely got any and when we did it was like 1-2 minutes tops. They completely cut down the balcony scene into 30 seconds which was very upsetting to me. The whole “sex scene” I have very mixed feelings about. On the one hand I loved the aggression and vulnerability coming from both Alec and Magnus, Matt and Harry’s chemistry was on fire this episode, and I loved the way Magnus talked to Alec about being afraid to lose him after they have sex. But, on the other hand, 1. Magnus looked kinda uncomfortable with Alec pushing him into the bedroom. Alec may have wanted it but think about what Magnus wants. Magnus’ wants matter too and 2. I honestly, and I may regret saying this but, don’t think they had sex because I feel like we would’ve seen something, whether it be the after scene or leading up to it or something. I don’t want to think that they left us hanging with that storyline. So, all in all, the episode was good, but the Malec was very underwhelming and honestly a little disappointing. So I’m holding out for next week’s episode that this will al be explained and hopefully, they didn’t have sex and if they did, they both talked it out and decided they both wanted to.
UPDATE: So Darren, one of the writers of the show tweeted saying that he thought we all assumed that Magnus and Alec both consented. I don't like that excuse at all. I don't want to throw shade at anybody, especially the writers, but the way they handled that scene wasn't the way to do it, in my opinion. If you're going to tweet and say that Magnus consented off screen, then what would be the problem with adding another 10 seconds to the scene for us to see Magnus saying yes or OK or something like that consenting to having sex? I know you guys pretty well and I feel like we all would've felt a little bit better if we saw Magnus giving consent.
