The Raigad Fort was built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Maharashtra and the chief engineer was Hiroji Indulkar.Located at a distance of 132 kms from Pune, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj seized the fort in 1656, made it his capital in 1674 . This fort in Pune is a monument of great pride for the Marathas and accounts to their glorious past. There are approximately 1737 steps leading to the fort.
Through Raigad ropeway you can reach in 10 minutes. The fort was looted and destroyed by the British after it was captured in 1818 . Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj also built another fort Lingana around 2 km away from Raigad. The Lingana fort was used to keep prisoners .

Reach– Raigad one day trip from pune ideal time is to start journey early morning 7am.It’s 135km from Pune that will take like 4hrs to reach.From pune you can go via Tamini ghat then once you reached Nizampur take left & follow the Panchad road.
Best time to visit-November to March,you can trek to Raigad which will take like 2 hrs or you can take ropeway which will take you in 10 min.
