Good Morning Newcrest!

Newcrest Cafe ~ Noon ~ Malia & Kobe

     Malia walks through the backdoor, looking for Kobe and spots him finishing up with a customer, “Kobe!”

His head jerks back to look at her, whispers, “Gimme one sec,” he looks back at the customer with a warm faux smile and tells them to have a nice day. He turns his attention back to Malia and walks to her, “What’s up?”

“Okay, so, I just got word that we’re getting a couple of new people this afternoon,” she tells him.

He rolls his eyes and sighs, “Are you gonna make me teach again..? Ya know I’m no good at that...”

“I know and I’m not at least not alone, I’m gonna be here to help. I thought I’d give you a heads up before you try to tackle them like you nearly did to Jordyn..”

“Heh..yeah...” Kobe gives a stiff smile, “I still feel bad about that...”

“I bet, anyway, these two, from what I’ve heard one’s a sophomore in college from Windenburg and the other is a junior in high school from San Myshuno.”

“Oh? Windenburg and San Myshuno? Aren’t those places kinda..far?” Kobe asks.

Malia scoffs, “Yeah, but Kobe, these kids are probably spoiled rotten and upper class with plenty of other opportunities. Why the fuck they’d wanna work at a shithole like this boggles me. Like, I have to work here to pay my own fucking rent...”

“Boggles..” he chuckles.

“Kobe.”

“Sorry..but maybe they aren’t so bad..? You really shouldn’t profile like that kinda makes you come off like an asshole,” he says to her, rubbing the back of his neck.

“You’re right Kobe. I should just assume everyone in the world is a fucking saint,” she says scornfully.

He sighs, “Mal...you know that’s not how I meant it. Just cause someone is from a certain place doesn’t mean they’ll act a certain way..those are just stereotypes.”

“I know what they are, but stereotypes have to come from some kind of truth. Like, Newcrest is said to be full of junkies and criminals in hiding and as someone who’s lived here her whole life, I can say that’s the fucking truth,” she snaps at him.

“Okay..but also realize not everyone is a walking stereotype..you’re not a junkie or a criminal, are you?” he asks.

“No...but..” She sighs, giving up.

“See?” He says with a big stupid grin on his face.

“Shut up..I’m taking a smoke break. If you need me I’ll be outside,” Malia tells him as she grabs her pack of cigarettes. She walks out the back door, thinking to herself, ‘For an idiot, he makes a fair point...I hate that I couldn’t fucking argue with it...’

Introducing the cast of Good Morning Newcrest!

This is a story set in a coffee shop and focused on the employees. This was definitely inspired by my current job and I’m hoping to get some of my frustrations out with this..cause trust me there’s plenty I could say (but I love my job at the same time and I don’t wanna get fired today lol)

Jordyn is my flower child, now I personally don’t work with someone like that, but her character will be a combination of a couple of co-workers of mine.

August has his job over the summer while he’s out of college. He’s smart and can be a bit of an insensitive jackass.

Kobe is not the brightest, but he gets the job done well enough not to get fired. He can be lazy and not wanna do the work, but if you ask he’ll help. He does more of the heavy lifting around the store.

Malia has been working there for over a year and could be a shift lead, but chooses not to be, she doesn’t like the responsibility, but she does get paid more than her other co-workers. She’s a punk and she’s based off one of my other co-workers.

Addie is my mega-bitch, she’s probably the one that I’m gonna get most of my frustrations either out with or on. I personally don’t know anyone that acts like she does at my work, just thought it’d be fun to try writing her kind of character in a setting like this.

And now, Hunter, my precious bean, he bakes the pastries at work and he likes to joke around and to try to be friends with everyone. He’s a real sweetheart and bubbly, but when he’s not at work he doesn’t always have a smile.

Hopefully, while I’m off this weekend I can get something for this out for you guys and I hope y’all enjoy it c:
