There was a BIRB!
A largish brown songbird, fluttering from banister rail to banister rail, right outside the window. You can almost see it, through the curtain, just above Tristan's back in the first photo.
Tristan watched with utter, fascinated, avaricious silence. He lay with his head lifted as alertly as possible, and only moved to turn his head to watch. He reminded me of a periscope. This went way beyond mischief, and into stealthy stalking.
