Fusion is a very important part of Steven Universe. Whether you see it as love (platonic or otherwise), rebellion, or whatever else, there's no denying the heavy importance it carries throughout the series. Any Gem can fuse with another Gem to create something entirely new that is beyond either of them; beyond the comprehension of the Gems that created the parts that formed to make the fusion. However, if we are being completely realistic, there is no possible way we will see all the Crystal Gem fusion combinations by the end of the series, much less all Gem combinations. In the end, that will drum up controversy as much as it would if they show a Gem fusion. "That's not how they're supposed to look". "Why are you afraid to put so-and-so together?" "Let me tell you why this design I made should've been in instead". You get the picture, you've seen it played out before. Damned if they do all the fusions in the time allowed, damned if they don't. The point I'm trying to reach is that - in my opinion - the biggest saving grace I can imagine for the show to cover as many fusions as they can would be in the climax. The Crystal Gems and company launch into the final confrontation with Homeworld. Heavily outgunned, outnumbered, and otherwise outmatched, they resort to the one power they have over Homeworld: Fusion. In rapid succession, the Gems fuse and unfuse as the moment demands to create Gem Fusions that we have never seen before to combat the enemy. All at once we are introduced for short periods to new characters as they show off their particular skills before splitting apart once more. In your opinion, would an all encompassing finale like that satisfy you, or would you find something like that cheap?
