Ok so I've recently started working for a company that provides specialized language classes to companies and adults as an English teacher. Well I was just telling my sister how I think it's really weird how everyone asks me if I'm from the USA because I don't look Mexican (provably cuz I died my hair blond idk) and then all of the sudden she asks me if the people in my classes are mostly morenos (aka brown) and I'm like, well yeah, sure, about 4/7 are morenos, so? "Oh, well that makes sense"...... what? Let me just clear up that when I say that this company teaches other companies, I'm talking about Wal-Mart level shit. And not cashiers or store managers at Wal-Mart, I mean big office people like ceos and branch executives, so we're talking really important people here. "How so?" I ask, naively, "Not to be elitist or nothing but (Oh Jesus don't) honestly it makes sense that most people in your classes are morenos since most of them can't speak English." ..... what? ........ I mean seriously what? Really girl?..........REALLY??!?!! THE HELL YOU TALKING ABOUT? Our whole family is pale af and can't say a goddamn word in English, SERIOUSLY???!!?! DA FUCK???? So I'm like, ok, ok, keep it cool, I mean, sure, a large percentage of Mexico's population can't speak English, and Mexico IS a mostly dark skinned country, so let's give her another chance to see what she means right? "And why wouldn't morenos be able to speak english?" "DUH! Because they're indigenous!!!" Ok, back up back up, you truly 100% believe that all the dark skinned people in Mexico come from what, Oaxaca???? What about dark skinned people in the capital? Or in cuernavaca? Or all the other.big cities, what'd yo think, they've all just migrated there? And sure, they provably descend from indigenous people and have an indigenous heritage, but it's one thing for them to have ethnic characteristics and another to expect them to all just walk around speaking nahuatl!!!! (Which by the way, what would be wrong with that?? Nahuatl's GOERGOUS) And then she keeps going on about how morenos are all indigenous, and all indigenous people can't speak english, and I'm not sure if she truly realizes how toxic that is and what a huge pile of bullshit's fucking leaking out of her mouth. First off, why can't indigenous people learn english? Cuz they're dumb? Cuz they're isolated and have zero connection to an English dominated world? Or because indigenous people are obviously poor and go to public schools??? Just a hint, either answer is SO WRONG. Granted, maybe some indigenous communities don't have the means to access a quality education (and that's entirely our goverments fault) but most of them are still bilingual, SINCE THERE IS A SHIT TON OF DIALECTS IN MEXICO THAT STILL EXIST IN THIS KIND OF COMMUNITIES, so even if they can't speak English, most of them can speak their native language AND Spanish. A bilingual is still a bilingual even if you don't understand his language. Second, assuming that all dark skinned people are instantly indigenous is downright stupid. I'm pretty damn sure Mexico's at least 70 % dark skinned, and a big chunk if that population lives in cities, he'll, I'm sure most of it lives in Mexico City since there 's SO MANY GOD DAMN PEOPLE HERE. So are you saying that all this millions of dark skinned people living in this crowded af city STILL couldn't get a quality education because, what? Why exactly could neither of them go to a good school?????? And third, WHY IS IT MORE IMPORTANT TO YOU THAT THERE ARE 4/7 MORENOS IN MY CLASSES THAT THE FACT THAT GROWN UP ADULTS IN MEXICO STILL REQUIRE YEARS OF SPECIALIZED ENGLISH CLASSES TO BE ABLE.TO.HOLD A CONVERSATION????!!!!!!?????!!!?!?!?!?! Honestly, the school system has failed us all. And yet, this are important people with really impressive jobs, and you are gonna dismiss all their dedication and their years of work because "son morenos"???!!!!! I mean , they obviously have a high education, because otherwise how the hell did they make it all the way to CEO???? Honestly, this shit just pisses me off you know? I mean, Mexico has a lot of problems and it's all good and fine to pin most of them on the government since they're the ones who screw most of the shit up, but this??? RACISM??? CLASISM????ELITISM???!!!???!!! That's our own god damn fault.
