Midtown Plaza Mall The Clock of the Nations 

This sculpted timepiece was specially designed to be contemporary version of the centuries old animated clocks of Europe and would be the only one of its kind in the entire nation. Originally drawn on the back of an envelope by Gere Kavanaugh, a member of the Gruen and Associates staff. The concept was then passed along to sculptor Dale Clark to bring to life the vision that was to become the focal point of the mall.

I think we can all agree that the glamour days of shopping malls are long gone, though I was fortunate enough to experience a little bit of it as a young girl back in the 80′s and 90′s. Montreal based musician Fred Walker, also known for his long time role in indie pop band Saturday Looks Good to Me, is preparing to release his new solo album Changer soon. He takes us into the past with an dense ambling, restless shifting alt rock number named Mallwalkers on which he waxes introspective and reflective in a manner that reminds me of early the Pixies. It’s oddly comforting and euphoniously mesmerizing. Fred Thomas’ new album Changer will be out on January 27th. You can pre-order from Polyvinyl.

Mallwalkers - Fake It To Make It

This latest (2021) album is the least funky. Still really good and fun, just more soul and rock’n’roll than funk. Some of the songs are almost verging on Rocket From The Crypt territory, which i wasn’t expecting but is a-okay in my book.
