More experiments in combining pencil sketches with digital coloring. An intense standoff between two of my characters. Iceac switched to the side of the villains, relishing the opportunity to take on the one he considers his most hated rival. Malron just doesn't want to hurt him.
This is based on Naruto Opening 05, the song is Seishun Kyousoukyoku by Sambomaster During what is supposed to be in the latter part of my Controlers (still needs a new name) story, the cast storm one of the enemy's bases to rescue a teammate. As things come down, during the crumbling and harrowing escape, the ones bringing up the rear are Malron(long black hair, silver top) and Iceac (the arm coming down holding the goggles). Something happens and Iceac is seperated and presumed dead despite Malron's attempt to save him. All Malron could recover before he had to be dragged out was Iceac's goggles, the goggles he can't be seen without. Then Iceac returns about a month later, alive, in different clothes, in different goggles, and very very angry. He has joined their enemy. The symbology of the images are as follows: In the initial image we have Iceac's friends, Malron and Aryal (orange hair, pinc-nez). Malron on the left is important as reluctant team lead, a position Iceac has craved and constantly fought for. Iceac has always seen Malron as a rival and an obstacle to getting something he feels he deserves and will earn him respect. Aryal on the right is the sister figure Iceac never had but might have wanted. Aryal and Iceac have a close and unusual relationship filled with conflict from their stark differences but kinship from their difficult family situations. Aryal was hit very hard by Iceac's supposed death. Iceac's hand holding his goggles represents his connection to them. The next image where his goggles are dropped are the severing of that connection as he aligns himself with the enemy. Volkan III on the left side who dreams of power. Volkan validates Iceac's deep insecurities and resentment and Icac does not need a lot of convincing to think that he friends never really cared about him. Volkan's older sister, Sinerya, on the right side is supposed to balance out the image and she's basically Volkan's right hand woman.

God I've probably had these two pictures kicking around for maybe 2-3 years and only now i'm doing something with them. It's characters from my Controlers story. These images are inspired directly from a Naruto opening. You know which one. Anyhow, it was perfect for a storyline like to call the Iceac Betrayal Arc. And now that I'm doing more things digitally these sketches might finally be able to come to life.
