A little bit better, is still better.
I completed a 5k walk/run once. I have some health issues that put me firmly on the "walk" side of that activity, but there were others in that 5k with similar things going on. I had been working out at the gym to get stronger for a while at this point. Swimming, bike, treadmill, some light weights and walking the hell out of their track. An asthma attack about half-way through almost sidelined me, but after a short rest and some water I was able to keep going.
I was dead last.
And I mean dead last. They were just wondering if they needed to come get me when I made it in. In truth, I'd gotten a little lost at some point and had to double back, thus making it a little longer than a 5k-this was through town and cross country and they probably needed a few more people placed along the route, but I had made it back okay, so it was okay.
My brother came in 39th and had managed to run the whole thing for the first time ever. We were very proud. I can't ever tell you. He said something like "I knew you could finish." And I told him, "Yep, and no matter what, I just lapped everyone sitting at home on the couch today."
A little bit better, is still better.
