Teatime | Giovanni & Mama

Cherrygrove City was a quiet enough place to enjoy some afternoon tea—or so Giovanni had assumed. The quaint little tea shop he’d decided to visit was bustling with all manner of people, with tables that were overcrowded with teenagers, couples, and businessmen and women on their lunch breaks. The sight of it was almost enough to make him reconsider, but he’d already traveled all the way there, and it seemed there was exactly one open table left.
Giovanni made his way to the table near the back of the shop, and settled in to read the newspaper he’d brought. It wasn’t too difficult to focus on the reading and drown out the noise around him, secluded as the table was. It didn’t take as long as he’d expected for a waitress to take his order, either. Before long a steaming pot of green tea was placed in front him along with an oven-fresh scone. The pastry was delicious, and the tea was good enough to make the crowded atmosphere worth it. Nothing like they made in Ecruteak, of course, but it was pleasant nonetheless.
He unfolded the newspaper again, sipping his drink intermittently. He wasn’t hiding behind the paper exactly—he wasn’t concerned with being recognized here, not doing something so mundane as having tea—but if it happened to keep anyone around him from looking too closely, he wasn’t going to be bothered by it. The real downside of his singular focus on the paper was that it prevented him from noticing the woman approaching his table until she spoke up to catch his attention.
